Antonierhof fountain

Although the Rhine is not far away, refreshment is also available in Rheingasse. This has to do with the fountain of an architect who has left his mark on Basel in many ways: Melchior Berri (1801–1854) designed, among other things, the plans for the Stadtcasino and the museum on Augustinergasse, today’s Naturhistorisches Museum Basel. Berri was an advocate of classicism in architecture, that is, he drew his inspiration from the temples and columns of antiquity. This is also evident in this massive fountain, whose octagonal well is crowned by a pine cone.
